So we’re now entering the last few days of February which seems a bit unreal to me (side note: I’m probably going to say this every month, but it really does feel like it’s flown by!).
February brought along Valentines day, Pancake day and also my Etsy shop update. January was spent creating all the new shop items, so it was amazing to finally show you all what I had created for you. If you haven’t seen already, I thought I’d show you some of the new designs, as I’ve brought out all new products!
I’m so excited to say that I now have mugs and stickers in my shop! These are 2 things that I’ve been wanting for a while now and I finally got around to making it happen. As I’m an animal lover, I couldn’t resist creating 2 pet themed mugs for all the pet parents out there. However, if you don’t have any furry family members, I’ve also created a botanical mug design too.

I’ve also added all new custom artwork pieces which I’m so excited about! Working on personal commissions is one of my favourite things to do, so I’m really happy that I now have multiple versions of this such as portrait commissions, linework home illustrations and full colour home illustrations. If you’d like to read more about them, I have a commissions page with more information here. I’m also thinking of writing a blog post on the custom art I offer, so keep an eye out for that!
Besides from my shop update, I’ve also been working on some new commissions and client work, so hopefully I’ll get to show you those soon!

Hello lovely people!
Has anyone else felt like January just flew by? Usually it seems to drag on for so long but I can’t believe it’s about to be February.
I’ve decided to start a monthly review to share with you what happens each month at Happy Mouse Studio and also as a reminder to myself of what I’ve accomplished. I’ll admit, this month started off very chilled - anyone else struggle to get back into work after the holidays?? But I soon got back into the flow of creating and thinking of new ideas for my shop update (read on to find out more about this).
My absolute favourite part of January was receiving my copies of Origin Magazine. It was definitely a pinch me moment, seeing my work for the first time in a magazine. The team at Origin are so lovely and it was such an amazing opportunity to be featured in their 40th edition alongside so many amazing female creatives from all around the world.
The rest of January has mainly been focusing on my shop and thinking of all the new items I could create for you. It’s been a while since I’ve done a large shop update and it’s been so much fun developing new designs and seeing what products I can create. The samples have arrived for my shop and I can’t wait to show you all the new goodies! There’ll be a mix of new art prints, mugs, sticker packs, digital downloads and custom artwork.
All the new products will be available on Sunday 23rd February in both my web shop and my Etsy shop.
I’m looking forward to seeing what February has to bring!
The Happy Mouse Studio blog is now back up and running! I’ll be posting at least once a month.. sharing the behind the scenes of my studio, the process of my work, my monthly reviews, any tips and tricks that may help you in your own practice and some art challenges/moodboards for you to join in with.
So without further ado, it’s time to introduce you to the studio and the artist behind it….
Happy Mouse Studio is an illustration and pattern design studio based in Sheffield, UK. The two main ingredients for Happy Mouse Studio are a little spare bedroom of the house, acting as a studio space and an illustrator running on an excessive amount of tea.
I’m Michaela, the artist behind the illustrations. My favourite thing to do is draw and I can’t imagine not being able to spend my days creating new designs for you all to enjoy. My days usually consist of working on new illustrations, coming up with ideas for my shop, sending out shop orders to all you lovely customers and developing patterns to be used for textiles. I also work alongside my studio assistant Oliver, although he spends most of his time snoozing on the job.
Plants are the main source of inspiration for my work and I love to try and include a little snippet of nature in each of my pieces. I primarily create my work digitally, however I really want to get back into painting, so you may see some new additions coming soon. Another source of inspiration is the beautiful little details that I come across in day to day life, I think it’s important to appreciate the small comforts that bring you happiness, whether that’s curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea, conversations with friends or even just watering your plants.
